What NZ standard applies to hard hats and safety helmets?

AS/NZS 1801 is the NZ/Australian standard for industrial safety helmets. It covers impact protection, penetration resistance, and retention system performance. All safety helmets sold for industrial use at KiwiWorkGear meet this standard.

How long does a safety helmet last in NZ?

Replace safety helmets every 2-5 years or immediately after any significant impact. UV exposure, chemical contact, and general wear can degrade the shell even without visible damage. Always follow the manufacturer's replacement guidelines.

What is the difference between a standard hard hat and a forestry helmet?

Standard hard hats provide basic head impact protection. Forestry/integrated helmets (like the Protos Integral) combine a hard hat with integrated earmuffs and mesh visor in one certified system — essential for chainsaw, arborist, and forestry work in NZ.

Does KiwiWorkGear stock Protos forestry helmets?

Yes — KiwiWorkGear stocks the full Protos Integral range, widely regarded as the premium forestry and arborist helmet in NZ. We also stock JSP, Portwest, and other brands for general construction and industrial use.
