NZ WorkSafe requires forestry workers to wear: chainsaw-rated leg protection (AS/NZS 4453), safety helmet with visor and earmuffs, chainsaw boots, and cut-resistant gloves when operating chainsaws.

What is the difference between Class 1 and Class 2 chainsaw protection?

Class 1 is rated for chainsaw chain speeds up to 20 m/s; Class 2 is rated for higher speeds (up to 24 m/s). Arborists using higher-powered saws should select Class 2 rated PPE.
