What PPE is required for chainsaw use in NZ?

NZ WorkSafe requires chainsaw operators to wear: AS/NZS 4453-rated chainsaw chaps or pants, a forestry helmet with integrated visor and earmuffs, chainsaw-rated boots, and cut-resistant gloves. KiwiWorkGear stocks a complete range of certified chainsaw PPE.

What brands of forestry PPE does KiwiWorkGear stock?

KiwiWorkGear stocks forestry and chainsaw PPE from Pfanner, Protos, Clogger, and Andrew Footwear — covering chainsaw chaps, integrated forestry helmets, chainsaw boots, and protective gloves for forestry and arborist work throughout NZ.

What is the difference between chainsaw chaps and chainsaw pants?

Chainsaw chaps are worn over regular work pants and provide protection to the front of the legs only. Chainsaw pants provide 360° protection and are preferred for professional forestry use. Both must meet AS/NZS 4453 to be used on NZ worksites.

How often should chainsaw PPE be replaced?

Replace chainsaw PPE immediately if it has been contacted by a chainsaw chain — the cut-protection layers are compromised after any contact, even if cuts aren't visible. Undamaged chainsaw PPE should be inspected regularly and replaced every 3-5 years.
